[edit] C# Comment Blocks

Comments are essential to include in your code. They are by no means necessary but they can eliminate confusion when you attempt to edit your code in the future. Experienced programs use comments extensively and sometimes they are required to use they by company policy. C# comments can make or break a software product and can even put software companies out of business if the finished product was several thousands of lines. It can make future programmers reluctant to edit existing code and sometimes it can be very very expensive to edit uncommented code. This goes for any programming language. Do not forget to use comments through out your code you wil thank yourself .

[edit] Types of comments:

Comment Symbol Description
Single Line // After placing the // sybol you can write one line of comments
Delimited /*     */ Any text in between the symbols will be comments
  • Comments are totally ignored by the compiler and will not be processed
  • For speed demons comments will not slow down your program execution

[edit] Example:

using System;

class Program
{
    static void Main(string[] args)
    {
        //This is a comment

        /* This is a comment block.
         It will not be processed by the compiler
         Here is the third line.
         Here is the forth line
         */
    }
}

Do you see the // and /* */ symbols?
